On 10th June 2026, Ambassador Weert Börner and Dr. Imke Börner paid a courtesy call on Pehin Abdul Rahman Taib, the Honourable Speaker of the Legislative Council. Also present was Datin Paduka Dr. Hajah Huraini Hurairah, Clerk to the Legislative Council.

In an atmosphere of friendship and future-oriented cooperation, the German Ambassador briefed the Honourable Speaker on the recent official visit of His Majesty Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah and delegation to Germany (17th-19th May 2026 to Berlin and Hamburg). In addition, the meeting covered a broad range of topics from increasing Bruneian-German cooperation in the areas of economic diversification and education, both in the academic field and in vocational training, to the work of the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU). Germany’s parliament, the Bundestag, has been a member of IPU since 1951. Brunei’s Legislative Council joined the IPU in 2025.
